Bidar is one of the popular cities in Karnataka in terms of tourist attraction,it’s also known as Crown city of Karnataka as its located in the top most of the state and lies in the northern east of Karnataka. it’s a Deccan plateau and historic place to visit and is sub divided into 6 divisions Bidar, Basavakalyan, Bhalki, Homanabad, and Aurad.

Weather condition: it’s little dry all throughout the year, but
April and May are little more hotter but
in the hot summer a sharp and a sudden thunder storm will hit by south-east
monsoon and again in June, the weather will become cool and pleasant. Best time
for visiting is from October to March.
Places to see in bidar: From Bahamani era bidar known for some of the
important historical monuments. The monuments are Adil Shahi, Mugals, Bahamani,

Jharani
narashima swamy temple:
It is 118 km far from bidar which is also known as Narashima zarna cave temple one of the most attractive and an agriculturally wonder place. It is a place of thrill, because to reach the deity of Lord Narashima one should go into the 300 meters long cave or tunnel with 4 feet height flowing water.Lighting and ventilation have been recently installed for the visitor’s convenience.

The Cave has natural spring water which leads
to the deity Narashima Swamy.
The following is
the short story behind this temple, Lord Narashima swamy after killing
Hiranyakashpu, the lord proceeded to kill a demon named as JALASURA, a devotee
of Lord Shiva; jalasura turned into water which started to flow from Lords feet
from then to now the water is flowing from Lord’s feet and fills the cave. The
devotees will take bath in the water fountain outside the temple before
entering the temple.
The structure
of the great Mahmud Gawan Arabic University:
The structure of the great Mahmud Gawan Arabic University is reminiscent of the rich architecture of the Bahamani era. It’s said to be one of the oldest universities which were founded by Mahmud Gawan. It’s located in the old city.
Bidar Fort:
Bidar Fort is situated in Bidar district of the northern plateau of Karnataka. Is situated next to the city and is one of the biggest forts in India. Sultan Allah-Ud-Din Bahaman of the Bahamani Dynasty shifted his capital from Gulbarga to Bidar in 1427 and built his fort along with a number of Islamic monuments.
The old Hindu Fort was rebuilt and beautiful
madrasas, mosques, palaces and gardens were raised.
TARKASH MAHAL:
This palace has a history which says
the palace was built by Barid Shahi Sultans. As the name tells Tarkash Mahal
was built for Turkish wife of sultan, the king had also had relation with many
ladies from different nationalities.
The space is wide and open which is
located out of Rangin Mahal which has arcade on the other side.

It’s a mark for the
monuments and an elegant place to visit and explore some of the facts of

Bahamani tombs:
Bahamani tombs are located in Ashtoor 4 kms east of Bidar. There are 12 tombs they are large mausoleums that structures arches, niches and patronizing dome.
The most popular among the entire tomb is Ahmad Shah-Al-Wali which is known for the beautiful walls and the words are written in gold color with a dark background which is a treat for the eyes.
The most interesting aspect is that they have used swastika symbol in this mausoleum for ornamentation. Sultan Aladdin-shah II, combines tile panels, arched and carvings with some of the elegant carvings which are very impressive.
GAGAN MAHAL:
The Mahal originally was built by Bahamani kings but some additional alterations were made by Barid shahi rulers. Basically the palace has two courts; the outer was used by male staffs and male protectors and the entry was behind Solah Khamb mosque.
There are rooms on the both sides for
accommodation for guards. It’s said that there are arched entrances to all
rooms which was decorated with stucco and tile work. The north is merged with
Tarkash Mahal which was built after Gagan Mahal. The gagan Mahal was designed
and decorated for sultans and his harem.
Gumbaz Darwaza:
The Darwaza architecture plays an important part in the history of Deccan monuments.
The palace fort has two main entry gates and
it is said that the fort was built by Ahmed Shah Wali who started the
foundation in 1429. Sharza Darwaza and Gumbaz Darwaza are main gates to palace.
Ragini Mahal:
Ali Barid first Baridishahi dynasty was adopted the tile of shah was a cultured prince fond of poetry, calligraphy and architecture. Floral patterns and calligraphy text, stone carvings,
Ragini Mahal is said as “painted place or colored palace”, because of its decoration with colored tiles art work, wood carvings which was done in the period of Ali Barid (AD 1642-80) and also Mother-Of-Pearl of the finest quality laid in jet-black stone.
Ali Barid first Baridishahi dynasty was adopted the tile of shah was a cultured prince fond of poetry, calligraphy and architecture. Floral patterns and calligraphy text, stone carvings,
stucco art are attractions of the monuments the Mahal was rebuilt during Barid shahi period.
Diwan I Am is also known as Jali Mahal. The mahal has two entries in east and west side,there are some spacious halls decorated with the tile work and geometric floor patterns.
The Bahamani kings used this place for inviting the dignitaries and the hall is filled with colored tiles.

This tower is cylindrical about 71- feet tall and 22 mts height is situated in the center of the city; it is also a watchtower which gives a splendid view to the city.

The building is octagonal shaped tomb was built by Allaudin Shah for his spiritual advisor its located in the north side of the road between Ashtur and Bidar.

the entrance of the building there is a beautiful calligraphic writings the

excellent buildings constructed by Bhamani’s.
Nanak Jhira Sahib:
The Nanak Jhira sahib is Gurudwara located in bidar the history says like this; when Guru Nanak stayed during his second missionary tour to India this place had acute shortage of water by seeing this Guru Nanak performed a miracle.
He
touched the hillside with his toe removing some rubble in the process, a
fountain of sweet water flowed out from this hillside and by this the place was
named as by Nanak Jhira, nobody knows from where the spring nestles.
The place
has amidst scenic serene and the place has numerous pilgrims where they offer
free food for the devotees which is known as Guru-Ka-Langar, it is one of the
sacred places to Sikh devotees.
Manik Nagar:
"Whosoever offers to me, with devotion a leaf, a flower, a
fruit, or water, that offering of love, of the pure heart, I accept".

Papa Nashaka temple:
Papnash Shiva Temple, a yet another famous temple situated in Bidar district in North-east Karnataka. According to legend’s, the Shiva Linga idol in this temple is one of those installed by Lord Rama during the time of his journey back from Lanka.
A natural spring flows into a pond in front of the temple called Papnasha which means destruction of sins. It is believed that, Holy dip in the pond has significance and purifies the soul of devotee from all sins.
As per the local traditional saying, the Shiva Linga idol had been installed in this temple by lord Ram during his return from Lanka. Every year at the time of Shivratri festival lot of tourists visit this place.
Sharza Darwaza:
The first gateway of the Darwaza is called as Mandu Darwaza. The second gateway is called as Sharza Darwaza, the sharza Darwaza has a larger dimension than the first gateway.
The height of the entrance is about 22 feet.On the top, the gateway has a beautiful design made by tiles and the colors seen are blue, green, yellow and white bands. Now the tiles have been rehabilitated and once it is finished, it would add beauty to the beauty.

Shahi Malbakh:
Shahi Malbakh was once upon a time a royal kitchen during Nizam’s period and later it was used as jail, this is adjoining Rangeen Mahal towards the west.
As originally it appears to
have been residence of a prince or some dignitaries at different periods it was
used for various purposes.
Solah Khamb Masjid:
The Solah Khamb Masjid is 16 pillar mosques, it is also called Zanana Masjid
and
was started in 1423 and was completed in the year 1424 by the regional
governor.
The masjid was originally built for performing the Friday prayers and
was built by sultan Mohammad Shah. The pleasing features are the middle hall
crowned by the large dome. Jami Masjid and Kali Masjid are the other two important monuments
from the architectural point of view.
It is
also the oldest and the largest Muslim
building in Bidar.
Barid Shahi tombs:
The
tomb has granite carvings and
colored tiles with floral patterns, Like the Bahamani tombs, they show Persian
influenza. The tomb of Ali Barid Shah, is the longest reigning and most
successful of the Barid Shahi Sultans.

Basavakalyan:
Basavakalyan situated at a distance of 80kms from
Bidar was once the capital of the Kalyani Chalukyas from 1050 to 1195.
It is
also noted in the history for it was the birth place of 12th century social
reformer Basaveshwara who worked for the welfares of the Poor.
Basaveshwara founded Anubhava Mantapa at Basavakalyan the place was an academy of mystics, saints and philosophers of the ‘Lingayata’ faith in the 12th century.
It was the fountainhead of all
religious and philosophical thought pertaining to the Human Values, Ethics,
bring about equality and to popularize the concept of “dasoha” (eating
together).

been used as Durbar Hall, This Throne Palace at the west end of the Fort is where the
Bidar rulers held private audience.

Shahi Hammam:
Shahi Hammam is also known as The Royal Bath which is located near by the Royal Kitchen (Shahi Malbakh), the building was used as the civil court till early nineteenth century. In front of the mosque there was Lal Bagh (Red Garden)
it was so
named on account of its beautiful layout or due to the red flowers grown
around.
Hazar Kothari:
Hazar Kothari was meant for
exit in the event of an enemy attack, it is located in the sourth of Takath
Mahal.

The main feature
of Takhti-i-Kirmani is the gateway which belongs to the 15th century which is
ornamented with bands of foliate and arabesque design. It is also an ancient
town with a fortification consisting of an embankment, with a parapet built on

placed on a wooden platform, which is well-carved and gilded in the Persian

Takht Mahal is also known as Throne palace was
been used as Durbar Hall, This Throne Palace at the west end of the Fort is where the
Bidar rulers held private audience.
It has a columned hall facing north onto a
rectangular court. Steps to the west of the courtyard lead to various rooms
with complicated plans. Some have remains of granite columns.
Shahi Hammam:
Shahi Hammam is also known as The Royal Bath which is located near by the Royal Kitchen (Shahi Malbakh), the building was used as the civil court till early nineteenth century. In front of the mosque there was Lal Bagh (Red Garden)
it was so
named on account of its beautiful layout or due to the red flowers grown
around.
Hazar Kothari:
Hazar Kothari was meant for
exit in the event of an enemy attack, it is located in the sourth of Takath
Mahal.

Takht-I-Kirmani:
The main feature
of Takhti-i-Kirmani is the gateway which belongs to the 15th century which is
ornamented with bands of foliate and arabesque design. It is also an ancient
town with a fortification consisting of an embankment, with a parapet built on
top.
In the center of this hall, the coach is
placed on a wooden platform, which is well-carved and gilded in the Persian
style. The local people highly occupy this place.

Humnabad:
Humnabad is situated at a distance of about 52kms
from Bidar and it is one of the famous pilgrimage destinations for the Hindus. Humnabad
houses, the famous ancient temple of Lord Veerabhadreshwara.
There is a local
annual fair held in the months of January-February and it goes for a period of
seven days. During the Veerabhadreshwara Jatra thousands of devotees throng to
Humnabad.
